Elite Dangerous: Horizons relies on a feature called compute shaders. Unfortunately, compute shaders is not supported on macOS by Apple's current version of OpenGL or by Apple's Metal API which prevents us from releasing Elite Dangerous: Horizons on Mac.
Should macOS, or Metal be updated to enable compute shaders, then we will, of course, review the possibility of supporting Elite Dangerous: Horizons on the Mac.
Note: Whilst we do not provide official support for this method, Elite Dangerous can be run on some more powerful Macs using Apple's Boot Camp feature. Please use caution if choosing to play Elite Dangerous: Horizons this way as performance may vary and official support is not provided.
